The thin section laboratory from the Department of Geology has been working for more than two decades. The laboraroty provides a high quality preparation of thin sections, polished thin sections and polished slabs from distinct geological materials (rocks, minerals, soils and ores).
The laboratory has a sample preparation flowchart that includes sample cutting, grinding, resin impregnation, precision cutting and polishing. All of these logistics can be applied to rocks, soils, minerals and ores of various origins.
The user must take their samples to the laboratory and discuss with the technicians responsible the type of service they require. Additionally, to prevent damage to our equipment, your samples must not be larger than the size of a fist and the cut site must be marked, as shown in the image below.
