Types of services: Analogue tectonic modelling
The Tectonic Modelling Laboratory "Prof. Caroline Gomes" at Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto is dedicated to analogue (physical) modeling experiments that simulate tectonic processes at reduced scale. The laboratory performs shortening, extension, and strike-slip deformation experiments to investigate the development and evolution of faults, folds, shear zones, rifts, and orogenic systems. Using controlled deformation apparatus and analogue materials, these experiments allow the analysis of structural patterns, kinematic evolution, and strain partitioning, contributing to crustal evolution studies and applications in structural geology and mineral exploration.
